The following paintings were done in collaboration with the great Chinese poet and calligrapher Huang Xiang.  Huang Xiang is one of the greatest poets of 20th century China and a master calligrapher.  He spent over twelve years in Chinese prisons and was frequently tortured for writing his lyrical, free-spirited poetry and for his advocacy of Human rights in China.  After eleven years in the United States, Huang Xiang returned to visit China in 2008.   He has been described as a 'poet on fire' a human torch who burns as a lamp of freedom and enlightenment.   He has published fifteen books in several languages. Our collaboration is called The Century Mountain Project.

The Century Mountain Project honors the greatness in us as human beings that has made itself evident throughout the centuries in the form of great creators, thinkers, leaders, discoverers -- essentially people that stood out like mountains throughout the centuries.  The ongoing collaborative artwork between Huang Xiang and William Rock is a celebration of the vast potential that is in each one of us.  It has no gender, cultural or race distinctions.  Huang Xiang and William Rock communicate and collaborate through the language of art.  After they discuss and select a subject, Rock will paint it and Huang Xiang will add his masterful calligraphy.  They share an inherent trust and experience of the "source' that allows them to create art that unites, connects and celebrates humanity.  Mozart. Van Gogh, Lincoln, Gandhi, Emily Dickinson, you and I are connected.  Let's all climb Century Mountain.
